Description & scriptural context

The two sources describe this shape differently – IGNCA says six-pointed star, Astroved says hexagonal – so it is not certain whether a hexagon or a hexagram is meant. The diagram here shows a plain regular hexagon and is labelled schematic.

Construction & measurements

Exact dimensions are not published on this page. Sources we consulted either give none (IGNCA) or tie size to the number of offerings without a verified table (IJYR, Motlani 2020). For a real ritual, follow your priest's or lineage's prescribed measure.

Ritual context & fire safety

Use a sturdy, non-flammable base, keep clear space around the vessel, never leave a fire unattended, keep water or sand ready, keep children and loose clothing away, and ventilate the room. People with asthma, COPD, or other breathing conditions should avoid smoke exposure. Check local rules for indoor fires and smoke alarms.

Traditional significance (tradition, not evidence)

Some popular and commercial websites attribute particular purposes to this shape and cite the Bhavishya Purāṇa. We could not verify those purposes in the text, and they are traditional or popular claims, not evidence that the shape changes any outcome.

Uncertainty & disputed points

Hexagon vs six-pointed star unresolved between sources.
